Why Hire a Wedding Planner?

Weddings can be overwhelming and stressful when one has never planned a wedding before. Even wedding planners themselves often become overwhelmed and end up hiring a wedding planner to assist them and take the load of the planning process.

When you are an engaged couple planning for one of the most important days of your life, the least of your problems should be the worry of putting everything together. Most importantly one does not want to stress about the behind the scenes on the day itself.

In the past years, people did not understand the need for a wedding planner. There has been a lot of shift in this thinking and as a result, we are seeing more and more couples using the services of a wedding planner. As more couples get educated on the need for wedding planning, we have been seeing an increase in the numbers of couples securing this service despite the fact that a huge amount of couple still wants to go the DIY route.

A wedding planner is a consultant qualified in organizing and coordinating weddings, taking care of most (if not all) aspects of a wedding.

When it comes to wedding planning services, there are generally 3 types offered:

  • full wedding planning,
  • on the month of the wedding planning,
  • and on the day of the wedding planning.

On the month of the wedding planning and on the day of the wedding planning services are ideal for those couples who are not working and have ample time on their hands to do all the run arounds needed. These couples are basically planning the wedding themselves and just need someone to execute on the day for them. As much as you can do all the planning yourself, it’s very strenuous to also be worrying about the day’s proceedings.

Full wedding planning services generally include and are not limited to the following:

  • Consultation to discuss wedding requirements
  • Wedding design and concept
  • Budget management
  • Venue searching
  • Recommendation and coordination of service providers such as venue, photographer, videographer, décor, flowers, furniture hire, entertainment, sound, lighting, makeup, cake, hairstylist, marriage officer, legal, stationery, caterers, accommodation, attire
  • On the day of the wedding coordination
  • Ensure everything runs smoothly according to schedule and plan

A wedding planner ultimately ensures that all elements of a wedding are taken care of, relieving the couple of high levels of stress related to planning a wedding. I have seen brides get admitted to hospital a few days before their big day as they become too anxious and panic.

In South Africa, wedding planners price their services differently. Some charge a percentage fee of the total cost of the wedding, and some a fixed rate. One can expect to pay anything between R35 000 to R85 000 for a professional wedding planner.

In the end, it is worth parting ways with a few thousands of rands in order to have a stress free beautiful wedding day. Who wants to be stressed out on their big day after all!
