The Much Anticipated Moffie Film Premiers 2020 in SA

MOFFIE, the 4th film directed by the South African, Oliver Hermanus. Oliver has scored three nominations already at the 2019 British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) for Best Director, Best Cinematographer (Jamie D Samsay) and Best Director, Best breakthrough Producer (Jack Sidev). What a great way to get off a plane! Its such great news to have our film included in the BIFA nominations today.

The director also portrays a modest front by saying, Being recognised is an honour and a real milestone for the film. We have had an amazing team come together to make this film, and to be celebrated and acknowledged in this way is truly wonderful.

If you look at the Film Awards, which was founded by the one and only, Elliot Grove and Suzanne Ballantyne in 1998, this also further speaks to its credibility and reliability after being trusted over all these years. These awards are a celebration of the best creative and most innovative independent filmmaking and filmmakers. The Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday the 1st December 2019 and will be hosted by the actress, writer and comedian, Aisling Bea.

During the month of September the film, MOFFIE, produced by Portobello Production and Penzance Films did very well at the Venice Film Festival. The film also had its world premiere there. MOFFIE is the second film created by Hermanus and only the fourth South African film to receive an official invitation to the Venice Film Festival. This film also sold out at this festival in October while competing in the competition for the Best Film category. 

 

 

 

MOFFIE also went through numerous reviews from local and international press, where most of them hailed the movie as one of the masterpieces Oliver created. The movie MOFFIE will show at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in Greece and in Scandinavia at the Stockholm Film Festival. The film will also show and premiere in other countries like Morocco, Ireland and even Scotland, all before hitting our own local screens on the 13th of March 2020. 

By looking at reviews of the film and comments it’s easy to say that the film is full of emotions and heartfelt. I personally think that most or all of the people watching this film will get a relating feeling and experience. On the other side, it will bring back flashbacks and memories to some of their time in the military

Some of the well-known actors you can expect to see in the movie are people like Kai Luke Brummer, Hitlon Pelser Matthew Vey, Stefan Vermaak and Ryan de Villliers. The movie is produced by Eric Abraham, Jack Sidey and then also co-produced by Theresa Ryan – van Graan. This group of people, to only name a few, definitely tells you it’s going to be GREAT!
