It is safe to say that the Ford Figo is one of the most popular budget hatchbacks in South Africa. I mean, you see them everywhere! But it is not necessarily a car that would be considered “cool”, right? Well, Ford is changing that with the limited-edition Ford Figo Blu!
The Blu is a limited edition option and there are only 360 units of the Figo Blu available in South Africa. It is based on the Ford Figo Trend derivative and adds some pretty cool details!
The Ford Figo Blu stands out right away with its sporty black 15-inch rims, while the regular Figo comes with 14-inch alloys. Other Blu features include the decals on the bottom of the doors and tailgate, the black side mirrors, roof and grille. Ford also added some blue details around the fog-lights of the car. Combined, these added Blu details make the Figo look very trendy and sporty!
Blue details are repeated on the door panels and the Blu badge can be seen on the backrests of both front seats, but other than that the inside of the Ford Figo Blu looks pretty similar to its normal Trend sibling. I really like the interior – it feels spacious, well-designed and practical!
The Ford Figo Blu comes with a 1.5-litre 88kW petrol-engine that produces 150Nm of torque, which is a lot of power for a car of its size! This is what makes the Ford Figo stand out from other “budget” hatchbacks for me. While driving the Figo around Joburg I was constantly surprised by the oomph the engine had, even when I was expecting it to struggle.
I enjoyed the comfortable and nippy drive of the Figo. The punchy engine and fantastic handling make running around a breeze! Ford claims that the Figo averages around 5.7L/100km, which makes it pretty light on fuel as well.
The Figo Blu comes with a few nice features. It is a budget hatchback, so not too much can be expected, but it keeps up with its rivals.
- Central remote locking
- Electric windows
- Bluetooth, USB and aux
- Built-in phone dock
- Driver & passenger airbag
The Ford Figo Blu retails at R209 800, which is R8000 more than the Ford Figo Trend. Even with the Blu’s added costs, the Figo is still pretty competitive in the budget hatchback segment.
As part of my test week with the Ford Figo Blu, I was invited to the live broadcast of Idols – Ford South Africa is a sponsor of the show. The show featured the top 4 contestants; Nolo, Micayla, Luyolo and Sneziey. Each contestant performed one hit from when their parents were in high school and one song from when they were in high school. I was very impressed with the overall production and really enjoyed the show. Thanks, Ford!
