The Importance Of Personal Hygiene

As little girls, our mothers tried tirelessly to teach us the importance of personal hygiene. So, we grew up and Google tells us a million other things. Well, when it comes to personal hygiene and the link this has to your sex life, it’s imperative to know that what you are doing is the right thing.

For so many years we have read and heard about a thousand ways to keep the “down-bellows” feeling fresh and clean. But, does what we have heard or read carry any truth? Let’s have a look.

Vaginal Douching

Something very common among most women. Many believe that this helps control odour, helps prevent STD’s and some even do this after their periods to feel fresh and clean. The important thing to remember here is that your vagina produces good bacteria that takes care of all this on your behalf. By douching, you are killing the good bacteria and health experts say douching is not effective for any of these purposes. In fact, they actually warn that it can increase the risk of infections, pregnancy complications, and other health problems. Let nature do its thing. You don’t need to get all up in there.

Removal of Vaginal Hair

It’s 2020, few of us want to walk around carrying a forest in our pants but the very reason for pubic hair is to keep your intimate areas clean and to protect it from unwanted bacteria. It acts as a proactive barrier from dirt. By trying to be as smooth as a marble, you are inviting in all the things you are actually trying to avoid. If you don’t want to be all 1960’s, try trimming the hair instead of shaving or waxing it all off.

Scented Vaginal Sprays/Lotions

Now there’s one to think about. I mean, who wouldn’t want to smell like a vanilla pod? Like with douching, products such as sprays, creams and soaps, can actually influence the balance in your vagina. These products carry unnatural chemicals and surely is not something you want inside of one of the most precious parts of your body as a woman. STAY AWAY!

So, what can you do when you want to feel extra fresh? Once again, the vagina cleans itself. It does, however, need to be groomed or bathed like you would your feet. To avoid any smelly or sticky situations, consider going down one of these roads:

  1. Wear 100% cotton underwear and preferably white.
  2. Use soft toilet tissue when wiping.
  3. Try and avoid lying in the bath for too long. The dirt in the water is not good for your little miss.
  4. Clean the area with warm water and dry thoroughly without being too rough.
  5. Make sure to clean up after sexual intercourse.
  6. Avoid things such as bubble bath, bath oils or bombs.

It sounds easier than it is, but choosing to maintain a healthy vagina should be an easy choice to make.
