The clock is ticking and freedom is calling, but before we can let our hair down there is one last mountain to climb… Matric exams.
Final exams are just around the corner, which means school is almost done. However, before you can hit the beach and get some rays, you should first prepare for all-nighters and all the coffee that you’re going to need to get through some of the toughest weeks this year.
Here are six tips for keeping your motivation up right until the very end
- Don’t start celebrating too early
- Allow yourself small victories
- Use what works
- Keep on top by staying organized
- Study with the right friends
- Take care of yourself
According to Professor Jonathan Jansen, Rector of the University of the Free State as published by SAStudy.co.za. his advice to students is simple.
“Do not panic, keep calm and keep perspective.”
Jansen explained: “The key is to remain calm and rely on what you already know and your preparation in the various school subjects since Grade 10 and even earlier. Listen to music or have a good laugh at Trevor Noah.
Plan your time appropriately. Do not leave everything to the last minute and get a good night’s sleep before your exam.
If you do poorly in the exams, it is not the end of the world. You can retake the examination or do a bridging course to university. Whatever you do, do not harm yourself. One examination can never be a judgment on your worth as a human being and a potential scholar of the future.”
But when your motivation is low, listen to a few of these songs which are guaranteed to lift your spirits and get you going.
- Working for the Weekend by Loverboy
- Higher Love by Steve Winwood
- Best I Ever Had by Drake
- All I Do Is Win by DJ Khaled
- Hustlin’ by Rick Ross
- Welcome Back by Mase
- Encore by Jay-Z
- Eye of the Tiger by Survivor (It doesn’t get any more inspirational than this rock staple from Rocky III.)
Good luck to all students who are writing exams, believe in yourself and the rest will follow.
