The 22 year old artist and performer, Zaan Sonnekus, are well known in the Pretoria area, especially under the students. You will recognize him for his energetic stage personality and performance who keeps crowds on their toes. More than that – the words of his songs speaks to so many hearts all over South Africa.
The rock-star is originally from Bloemfontein and is currently based in Pretoria where he works full time on his career. We are exited to share the news with you that Zaan will be focusing on Afrikaans songs in the year 2020.
“Soos Hel was written by me and Ruan Rabie. DBLR helped me with the editing and some of the instruments in the studio. The awesome music video was created by the amazing @Avilvere who did all my previous music videos, and job well done!” says Zaan.
“I’m not doing this for money or fame, although it comes by producing music, I do it to share my feelings and thoughts with the people out there.” – Zaan Sonnekus
I asked Zaan a few interesting questions, here they are!
Q) Who’s your biggest motivator in your career and in life?
A) Definitely my mother, since the day I was born.
Q) How old are you?
A) People misjudge this aspect when they see or meet me, but I’m turning 22 this year.
(Old music video)
Q) Reason for the New song?
A) I found out that one of my friends received bad news regarding an illness on my birthday, so I wrote this song to let my feelings out.
Q) How long did it take you to write the song?
A) You’ll be surprised but I literally wrote it the same day I received the bad news.
Q) If there’s someone you would love to perform with, who will it be?
A) Most definitely Karen Zoid.
Q) What feeling do you get before, when and after you perform?
A) It really is a feeling that one can’t actually explain, but it’s mostly that I can share my feelings with the audience.
Q) Any dream festival or South African show you would like to perform at?
A) Without a doubt Innibos! – It’s a dream that still needs to come true.
