The first evening of the luxury collection show included the #NewTalent showcase, an initiative to incubate upcoming designers. After gruelling deliberations by an esteemed panel of judges, it was House of Lucent that won the coveted new designer of the year award, following in the footsteps of Cindy Mfabe who successfully showcased her debut collection after the #NewTalent designers.
THE FAVOURITE COLLECTION OF THE EVENING?
From an audience member perspective, the Essie collection was a highlight of the evening with peroxide blonde wigs and classic Brittney Spears lyrics complimenting the edgy leather and latex designs.
THE FAVOURITE PIECE OF THE EVENING?
Essie showcased an innovative bomber jacket dress. Combining elements of clothes is not new to any range, however, this look is a complete break from tradition. The perfect combination of a blazer/dress/bomber jacket – it is chic and cheeky all in one.
Get the luxury collection look in 5 easy steps:
1 – SAY YELLOW AGAIN
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication and colour did all the talking on the ramp. From canary yellow to burnt mustard to a honey shimmer, designers were spreading luxury light on the ramp, proving that the supersized sunshine trend is far from over.
Pops of yellow were featured in accessories too, from beaded necklaces to boots that brightened the catwalk.
2 – TURN UP THE VOLUME
A departure from the sleek and slim designs that have recently dominated catwalks, various ranges showcased over-the-top volume with generous folds and billowing fabric that added geometric volume making for attention-grabbing entrances.
3 – DO IT FOR THE FRILL
Fierce femininity was celebrated in darling delicate designs. Pretty pleats and simple ruffles provided and old-world girlish glamour, while bold colours added a modern twist.
4 – PUSH THE BUTTON
Over-sized buttons remain a key feature with wooden pieces woven into modern designs.
5 – SUGAR COAT IT
From patterned princess, to refined royalty, to see-through splendour, there was an abundance of sweet and sour tastes for any coat occasion.
