Well, well, well. Summer has finally arrived and with it, temperatures of 30 ·C plus you need to Protect Your Skin This Summer!
Here’s the deal with the sun. It is not doing you any good. We all love a good tan but it is just not worth it. Skin cancer, freckles, fine lines and wrinkles are all damaged caused mostly by the sun.
And here’s what you probably don’t know, 15 minutes in the sun is all it takes for the damage to be done. Here are a few tips on how to protect your skin this Summer.
Stay away from peak sun.
The sun’s rays are at its harshest between the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM. To avoid the worst damage, try to avoid being in the sun for this period of time. I understand that it is not always possible so try to follow a few more tips.
Apply sunscreen… ALWAYS!
Sunscreen or anything with an SPF is a vital part of your daily skincare routine. Even on cloudy days, an SPF of at least 15 should be applied. Now, with the sun beating down hard this summer, allow yourself to be protected with an SPF of 30 or higher. Applying your sunscreen in the morning only once is not enough. It wears off over a period of time. Try to apply more sunscreen after every swim or every 2-3 hours.
Stay in your shade.
The risk of your sun damage can be reduced by relaxing in areas with shade rather than lying in the sun. This will allow you to still get the fresh air you require without doing irreversible damage to your skin. Even when in the shade, drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and still remember your sunscreen.
Cover yourself up.
I’m not saying you have to go out in a tracksuit in this ridiculous heat but there are ways to dress accordingly to avoid sun damage. Airy fabrics are a great way to protect your skin during peak sun hours. White linen fabrics are cool and light and provide enough coverage for protection. Darker coloured clothing provides more protection than lighter ones. There have even been clothing manufactured to provide UV protection.
Protect Your Skin This Summer and remember to pack a hat.
Find yourself a floppy sun hat that suits your face. For the best protection, it is important to make sure that your face, ears, neck and even your chest is covered in the shade while wearing your hat. Try to stay always from any materials that have gaps or holes in them. The sun will penetrate through these holes and damage your skin, not only in certain areas but everywhere.
Find some sunnies.
Cataracts are what happens where there is too much sun damage done to your eyes. Sunglasses provide protection from UVA and UVB rays and therefore have optimal provide full protection for your eyes. Wrap-around sunglasses even give additional protection to the sides of your face.
And there you have it, some simple yet easy tips for full-on protection from the sun this Summer.
