If you know me, you will know I love food. Pair it with a good bottle of wine, well you have made a new best friend.
I was thoroughly intrigued by the invitation, Tapered Tapas on 1st, and could hardly contain my inner foodie. The invitation read: “join us for a variety of mouth-watering tapas made from fresh local produce, where Spanish influence of tapas is combined with our deep South African heritage, to bring you a unique tapas experience.”
Owner, Tshepo Meyer, is a food adventurer, and she has brought her favourite items from her travels to create a very distinct and delicious menu offering, that will keep you wanting more.
I caught up with her quickly in between. One question, your inspiration behind Tapered?
“I grew up in a large family and food was always at the center of everything in our house. Food brings people together, so I wanted to create a space with great food, a great ambiance where people could congregate” Tshepo says. That is why the collaboration with Waterford wines was so perfect!
This evening was paired with beautiful wines from the picturesque Waterford Estate, situated in the Blaauwklippen Valley in Stellenbosch. These wines will be a feature on the menu, which will ensure that your Tapered food experience really is next level.
The menu although simple will not disappoint, as there is truly a dish for every taste. If you love meat, definitely try the steak, it is to die for.
The intimate size of the restaurant makes for attentive waiting staff, who serve to your every need. Tshepo is also all hands on deck, stopping for a chat during dinner.
Wines enjoyed on the evening included the Waterford Sauvignon Blanc, Grenache Noir and Rose-Mary Rose, to name a few. The dishes were paired perfectly. On offer was home-made Hummus and pita, the Moorish Chicken thighs with Mojo Picon Sauce, Mozzarella Stix with Romesco Sauce. And to finish off the evening, a perfectly paired Rose, with a delicious chocolate brownie. A brownie so deliciously perfect, I had two… as was the Rose.
The beauty of this little restaurant is that Tshepo is not just all business. She is all about making a difference. With this in mind, she set talks in place with a few community-based projects to see how Tapered can get involved. This will serve them well, as Linden is known for being a community driven suburb.
You can visit Tapered on 1st on Tuesdays to Sundays, and enjoy some delicious, hearty food, and get to know Tshepo.
