Mother’s Day Lunch Menus at Local Venues

With Mother’s Day, May 12, just around the corner, it’s time to start planning an extra special treat to celebrate Mom.

While it’s not always easy to find her the perfect gift, you might be surprised to find that what she really wants is to spend quality time with you. And, what better way to do so than enjoying a leisurely buffet, high tea or lavish six-course meal together.

Not sure where to start? Try one of these handpicked venues across South Africa offering
special set lunch menus for moms (and mother figures):

Moms who like it classic and natural:
Finfoot Lake Reserve, Elands River Game Reserve, Northern Province

Finfoot is keeping it classic this year with a three-course lunch that starts with a crisp Greek salad and fresh-baked bread. The selection of mains ranges from slow-roasted sirloin to feta-and-basil-stuffed chicken fillet. We also love the sound of slow-roasted Dauphinoise potatoes, green beans and mushrooms in a nutmeg and cream cheese béchamel sauce.

For dessert, how about a slice of mixed berry cheesecake?

Price: R250 per person, including a complimentary glass of wine.

Moms who love a little more choice:

Piekenierskloof Mountain Resort, Cedarberg, Western Cape

If Mom is all about that classic buffet-style lunch, take her up to ‘Piekies’ on the 12th and let her fill her plate with baby potatoes tossed with crispy bacon, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and pan roast gravy, as many as she likes. Let’s not forget about their signature Coppa ham and quinoa salad, smoked salmon veloute and seasonal veggies in parsley butter.

How about some Cape brandy pudding with crème Anglaise for dessert?

Price: R370 per person.

Moms who want a bit more bubbly:

Tala Game Reserve, Camperdown, KwaZulu-Natal

Tala Game Reserve is having fun this year with a Jazz & Champagne luncheon. How great does the watermelon medley starter with strawberry, feta and mint sound? The baked camembert with honey and nuts looks good too! As the for the main course options, choose from the deboned lamb leg with mint sauce, braised chicken in red wine with fennel, biltong-flavoured roasted potatoes, and green marrow and chickpea coconut curry.

Dessert options include chestnut and rum chocolate mousse and home-made pistachio-and-vanilla ice cream.

Price: R295 per person. Includes free entry at the gate with lunch pre-booked.

Moms who revel in understated elegance:

Le Franschhoek Hotel & Spa, Cape Winelands, Western Cape

Head to Le Franschhoek for high tea, which includes complimentary bubbly and a gift for Mom. There will be a selection of cheese platters, homemade spreads, mini quiches, filo tarts, marinated salmon, smoked chicken and cranberry stuffed croissants. There are almost too many options to name. Sweet treats include scones and muffins with local jams, berry cheesecake, white chocolate profiteroles, taffy macarons, meringues, fruit tartlets and red velvet cupcakes.

Price: R295 per person.

Moms who delight in all things quaint and charming:
Little Switzerland Resort, Bergville, Northern Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal

The Little Switzerland team will be hosting a Mothers’ Day buffet with live entertainment by the Vis en Chips band from 12:00-14:00. They’ve prepared a colourful selection of starters, ranging from lamb shish kebabs and soups to fresh bread and garden salads. Those hearty mains include favourites like Thai chicken & prawn curry, sweet potato bake, mushroom tortellini, roast beef and crispy potatoes.

Their dessert list this year features lemon meringue, chocolate mousse, carrot cake, fruit salad & fresh cream, and malva pudding.
