In the month of August, we celebrate all of the phenomenal women who inspire, motivate and empower us. This year’s Women’s day was no exception. You may have heard the buzz surrounding this year’s Miss South Africa pageant and if you weren’t there (we’ll forgive you this one time) we have all the details!
The Miss SA pageant was held at the Time Square Arena with 16 beautiful, compassionate and fierce women all competing for the new #Buhle crown.
It was announced earlier this year, that entries will be online so that all women have a fair and equal chance of entering. (We LOVE this idea!)
Entries started streaming in and the organization reached a record number of entries! Over a thousand women entered the famous pageant with the hope and dream of becoming Miss South Africa. From the entries, 16 diverse and all-inclusive finalists were selected to compete.
This year saw one of the most unique and diverse groups of finalists that the organization has ever had, and we are here for it!
On the evening of the pageant, the 16 ladies who made it to the final round were narrowed down to 10 beautiful women. The top 10 then had to compete in the swimwear division. The ladies stunned in body-hugging one-pieces giving us a whole new level of confidence. The Sun Arena was lit up and we are not talking about the bursts of flames from the stage!
Bonang Matheba, the host of the event, wowed us in stunning ensemble’s leaving us breathless. As per usual, she did not disappoint. Being Bonang, she had numerous outfit changes and they were all amazing, taking us back to that same fierce vibe that Katniss gave us with The Hunger Games.
Finally, the top 5 were announced which included Kgothatso Dithebe, Sasha-Lee Olivier, Zozibini Tunzi, Eloïse van der Westhuizen and Nompumelelo Maduna.
Each of the five ladies had an opportunity to answer a different question provided by each of the all-women judging panel. The ladies made their voices heard on key issues including education and women’s rights.
In a nail-biting moment, the top 2 were announced: Sasha Lee Olivier and Zozibini Tunzi.
What made this year special, was that there was no lack of representation and the contestants were tested on more than their beauty.
And the winner is…
Finally, Bonang announced our new Miss South Africa! Grab a glass of champagne, darling, and meet your new Miss SA, Zozibini Tunzi!
