Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen: Where Are They Now?

The Disappearance Of The Olsen Twins

Close your eyes and think back to the good old days. It’s 2004, New York Minute is showing on TV, I’m Like A Bird is blasting over the radio and you’re sporting a pair of low rise jeans. Those were the days, especially with two very special faces featuring on our screens every day back in the day. Back then, no one could escape the sight of the Olsen twins on every corner. This has us wondering, where are they now?

Where It All Started

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are identical twins born and raised in Los Angeles, California. The two were practically born into stardom, staring in the series Full House in 1987 at merely 6 months old. When the show ended in 1995, it was only the beginning for the Olsen twins. They quickly started taking the world of fame by storm, constantly being cast in films such as Passport To Paris (1999), Winning London (2001), Our Lips Are Sealed (2002),  followed by their own series, So Little Time (2001-2002). These are merely naming a few. Fans worldwide just could not get enough of these two adorable twins.

Where It Ended

If we had to place our bets back in the day, we would never have guessed that these two would eventually go off the radar. The last big project the public would see from the two as a duo would be the hit film New York Minute back in 2004. Thereafter, Mary-Kate and Ashley would slowly but surely hang their acting caps up for good. One thing is clear: this was done on purpose and by choice. Since going on the down-low, the two have shared that they weren’t entirely happy being in the spotlight 24/7. The two were fine giving up the spotlight if it meant being happy again, and so they did.

Considering what the twins had to work through, such as constant harassment from paparazzi and fans tracking their every move, their choice to let go of the fame is understandable. Mary-Kate even had to check into rehab for an eating disorder. She even told Marie-Claire, “I would never wish my childhood on anyone”. Childhood stardom is no joke.

Where Are They Now?

It’s hard to say, actually. Neither Mary-Kate nor Ashley has social media accounts, and they intend to keep it that way, “We don’t dive into that world; we don’t have Instagram or Facebook. We’ve stayed quite sheltered.”

These days, the Olsen duo are focusing on pursuing something that truly makes them happy; fashion. The Olsen sisters started a luxury fashion line, The Row, in 2006 and have been pouring their passion into working on the line ever since. In 2012, they were named Womenswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) for The Row in 2012 and received the award again in 2015. They don’t seem to care one bit about being behind the cameras.

Seems like the two soul sisters are happier and ever chasing their true dreams these days. Even though we miss them, we’re just glad that they’re following their hearts! Have a look at their amazing fashion line here.
