I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream for Ice Cream!

The inside SCOOP on where to get some of the most imaginative, absurdly creamy and also surprisingly artisanal ice cream this spring, that’s guaranteed to tantalize your palate.

Okay, I have to admit, it has been lovely having the excuse,

“It’s for work, honey,”

while indulging in so many flavours of ice cream, but the guilt starts creeping up with those glaring eyes…

Before I started my quest, I never realized how many unusual flavours there were, from super tasty to wildly whacky! If you, like me, classify yourself as a conehead or an ice cream fanatic, or, if you just love exploring amazing, fresh and unique flavour combinations, you have to add these hotspots to your Ice Cream Must Visit List.

EishKream – Joburg, Durban & Cape Town

Hailing from the shores of Durban and now found nationwide, they also serve fun and trendy pastel-coloured spaghetti ice cream in a cone, delightful small on-the-go boxes, or their hot off the track unicorn cup holders which has proven to be a hit. You’ve most likely seen their creations gracing your social media feed at some stage or another.

They are genuinely a proudly South African parlour. Their flavours include Lotus Biscoff, Bananarama, Malibu Charcoal, Black charcoal, Rooibos, Cape Koeksister, Milk Tart and, of course, Malva Pudding. So when the EishKream cravings strike look out for fun, pastel-coloured #InstaLiciousness at #Eishkream.

Unframed – V&A Waterfront – Cape Town

Ice Cream

This minimally styled hidden gem on Kloof Street offers a symphony of textured, naturally enhanced, flavoured ice cream that will have you licking your way through the different flavours while taking you back to your inner child and all your childhood memories. Just one of the many pleasures this quaint little shop has to offer.

Plan B Dessertery – The Zone @ Rosebank – Joburg & Various places in KZN

This innovative and fun spot, which rose to popularity in Durban, is one of four in a chain of stores and the newest addition to the chain in Joburg. Since its recent opening it has, in fact, been proving to us that the proof is in the pudding. Inspired by their love of Mexican cuisine, combined with life’s on-the-go pace Dessert tacos were born.

Great vibe, friendly staff that know just how to treat their patrons and fantastic food, what more do you need? Go visit them and experience the desserts as mentioned earlier for yourself.

Eggloo South Africa – Mozart Ice Cream – Joburg & Durban

Made in China. Yes, you read that correctly! This creation is indeed from China, and can now be found at Cornubia Shopping Mall in Mount Edgecombe and Ballito Junction Regional Mall.

Next time you’re in the kitchen and there’s a screw-up, embrace the failure, you never know what might come from it. This delicious accident gave a whole new meaning to Ice Cream in a Cone.

Pete’s Super Natural Ice Cream – Joburg

If clean, glorious, delicious notes in ice cream are what you’re after, then Pete’s Super Natural Ice Cream is the place for you. Ideally situated in Johannesburg, they definitely bring the beach, sand & sun feeling to Jozi.

You’ve got to get your hands on the Coffee Affogato, Vietnamese Coffee, and Strong Espresso flavours. This equals the best way to kick-start the summer.

This parlour is the latest addition to the group. With their locally-sourced yumminess and weight consciousness, No Sugar, ice cream range, they have raised the bar supplying exactly what their ever-growing fanbase seeks.
