Great Skin Doesn’t Happen Overnight & It Doesn’t Have to Break the Bank

Skincare can be such a stressful topic, especially between the ages of 20 and 40. In my teens, having perfectly smooth skin was at the top of my list, but it was also one of my biggest headaches. This was due to me being in my puberty stages, and acne was what felt like a permanent guest. That dented my self-esteem.

However, the older you get the less you care about what society thinks and you take your own time loving and caring for your skin. Besides, you’ve got a million and one things to worry about anyway. Generally, in our teens into the 20’s, you go through multiple skincare products hoping to fix the acne or the blemish issue overnight.

I probably went through 10 to 20 brands of products, none of which worked because I changed them almost every other month. The older you get the more you become comfortable in your own skin and you find yourself sticking to one product because you don’t necessarily have the luxuries to chop and change products. You gradually get to understand your skin type and you have an idea of what works and what doesn’t work for you.

Over and above leading a healthy lifestyle, and drinking lots of water, Dermatologists encourage good skincare routines in the mornings and evenings, and always using sunscreen. Below are skincare treatments I personally think are amazing and have played a significant role in the great health of my skin over the years.

Known to be gentle on the skin, it does not strip the skin of its natural oils. Clean away dirt, makeup and surface oils while keeping the natural oils your skin needs to stay hydrated. Cetaphil is great for the winter season as it keeps the skin well moisturized.

Lamelle’s products are developed through a rigorous programme of research, review, meticulous production and constant improvement. But one of the core reasons Lamelle can do this, stems from a deep understanding of how the body and the skin works, as well as a constant drive to gain even more insight.

My personal favorite is the Lamelle Luminesce range. It is one of the world’s most advanced pigmentation ranges and the first-ever product range to use bio-mimicking peptides. Combined with conventional skin-brightening ingredients, this scientific formulation inhibits the production of pigmentation. Safe to use on all skin types, Luminesce has no harmful effects and inhibits eight steps in the primary pigmentation production pathway. It’s light on the skin and you can use the moisturizer both during the day and at night.

Pond’s Perfect Colour Complex Anti-Marks Beauty Cream for normal to oily skin is clinically proven to fade away dark marks for a smoother and even-toned appearance. It also works to boost the skin’s natural brightening ability for a perfect, natural-looking radiant complexion. This particular range was my saving grace in my 20’s. The era of acne had left black marks on my skin. This helped clear the marks away.

Garnier Even & Matte is your perfect solution for skin that has lost its uniform tone, original radiance and that has developed dark marks. Using active ingredients, like lemon, which is rich in Vitamin C, a necessary component to healthy skincare. Garnier Even & Matte reduces dark marks, unclogs & tightens pores, instantly mattifies, visibly restores natural radiance and provides UV protection. Garnier helped regain my uneven skin tone.

  1. Great article Mpho. I agree with everything above . Personally , I’ve also invested in masks that can be bought from Clicks or Dischem which I use once or twice a week . These do wonders for the skin especially during winter because your skin loses moisture during the drier / colder months . Another tip would be for one to invest in an eye cream to minimize dark circles or lines underneath the eyes . Once in a while , a lady deserves to pamper herself to a facial which also does wonders and makes one feel like a million dollars. Those are my tips for skincare .
