I attended Armand Joubert’s debut album launch last night and what a vibey and funky event it was!
Armand Joubert, also known as AJ, is a 23-year-old singer/songwriter and
performing artist based in Centurion. Armand is a magnificent pop-artist, who is known for his energetic performances, high notes and impeccable style. He draws his musical inspiration from artists like Jessie J, Billie Eilish, Troye Sivan and Christina Aguilera. Armand’s performances are paired with two talented dancers, Mongené Burgh and Claudia Botes. Be sure to look out for their GQOM number in their shows.
Born in Witbank, Mpumalanga, Armand started singing at the age of 5 and has been the opening act for Prime Circle, Blackbyrd, Lady Zamar, Sho Madjozi, to name but a few.
Armand was a four-chair turner on The Voice South Africa, Season 2, and made it
into the Top 32. “Your voice sounds like a 5 Octave range, we’re talking Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Axl Rose.” This was Karen Zoid’s reaction after hearing Armand’s rendition of Ariana Grande’s “Into You”. Universal Music South Africa took note of Armand’s talent and signed a record deal with him.
Armand’s debut album was released on 16 August 2019 and it’s called “You’re Too Theatrical”. The first single to be released from his debut album was What Doesn’t Kill Me Better Run, AJ co-wrote this song with Marida Roux and they aimed to create a pop song with some Latin Pop Elements and they did not disappoint. AJ describes What Doesn’t Kill Me Better Run: “This song is basically about standing up from when you’re being kicked down and letting people know that when I get up they better start running cause I’m coming for them. Revenge is sweet”
In July of 2019, AJ went to Los Angeles to compete in the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA). He walked away with the title as Best Male Contemporary Vocalist of the World. Armand is currently focused on promoting his new album and doing as much as possible shows.
There are still a few surprises in store for his fans including, music videos but AJ
doesn’t want to tell us too much at the moment. Just stay tuned and follow his
journey on Social Media.
“I’m an artist. I’m here to express my art. I wasn’t born to fit in. Period.” – AJ
