Empowered Women are Powerful Beyond Measure

Because we know women are powerful, and with Women’s Month coming up, and girl power one of the most prominent subjects, it is only right to honor the women who make a difference in their communities.

It’s about time their input is recognised and acknowledged. Our Business Relationship Manager met up with a few businesswomen and asked them some personal and business-related questions that formed them to what they have become.

Meet Elizma de Beer, studying Cosmetology at Potchefstroom academy. Her hobbies and interests range from image consulting, fashion as well as graphic design.

The song, Fix You, by Coldplay.

WHAT LITTLE THING MAKES YOU THE MOST GRATEFUL TO BE ALIVE?
The opportunity to impact some positivity on someone’s day.

ON HARD DAYS, WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO GET UP AND START YOUR DAY?
The trick is to just keep going until you’re past the hard part, then only the good is left.

HOW DO YOU FIND STRENGTH WHEN YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HARDSHIPS?
The problem won’t go away until something is done about it. I like to pursue all my hardships head-on.

WHICH FAMILY MEMBER DO YOU CALL WHEN YOU HAVE GOOD NEWS TO SHARE?
My mother and my Aunt.

WHO INSPIRES YOU TO LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE?
Everyone I meet have wonderful qualities and inspire me in different areas.

WHEN YOU HAVE TO CONFRONT SOMEONE, DO YOU CHOOSE TO STAND STRONG, OR TO NOT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL?
I choose to stand strong because they might appreciate your honesty more than your silence.

IS THERE SOMEONE THAT MADE YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE?
My grandparents. They met when they were 17 and they are still happily married to each other.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN FATE AND THAT EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON?
Yes, I do. I believe everything that happens is an obstacle to make you stronger for something in the future.

WHEN YOU GOT YOUR HEART BROKEN FOR THE FIRST TIME, WHAT GOT YOU THROUGH IT?
I knew that if we were meant to be it would have lasted. It was for the best and we both learned from the relationship.

WHAT MAKES YOU MOST PROUD OF YOURSELF?
That people always feel comfortable coming to me when they need support or advice.

WHEN IN A CRISIS, DO YOU ACT CALMLY OR DO YOU AUTOMATICALLY FREAK OUT?
I try to keep calm because when the crisis has been averted I have enough time to freak out about it later.

WHAT KEEPS YOU UP AT NIGHT?
At night I usually plan and make hard decisions.

IF THERE WAS ONE CHARITY YOU COULD DONATE TO, WHICH WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
Education for everyone, young and old.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO YOUNG WOMEN WHO WANT TO SUCCEED IN THE WORKPLACE?
Put extra effort into everything you do. Offer to help even when it’s not expected of you. People will start to notice your hard work.

AFTER ALL THIS SUCCESS, WHAT DO YOU STRUGGLE WITH NOW?
Finding time to balance my life.

DO YOU THINK WOMEN FEEL INTIMIDATED IN BUSINESS?
No. Women are powerful and they have earned their place there and worked hard to be there.

HOW DO YOU ACHIEVE WORK-LIFE BALANCE?
I still struggle with it. I believe If I get all the work done first, then I will have enough time for my personal life and won’t have to worry about it again.

HOW DID YOU GET WHERE YOU ARE TODAY AND WHO/WHAT HELPED YOU ALONG THE WAY?
By always being keen to work or to lend a helping hand. The support of my family and friends got me here.

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED ABOUT LEADERSHIP, ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND MENTORING OTHERS?
Always stay humble.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE ROLE OF LUCK IN YOUR SUCCESS?
Prayer and having faith plays a big role.
