In case you didn’t know, Citroën decided to stop selling vehicles in South Africa in late 2016 due to poor sales. However, they kept their presence in the country by continuing to provide services to Citroën owners.
But now, after three years, Citroën is back with a bang! They are re-entering the South African vehicle market with three new models. Let’s take a look…
1. Citroën C3 – The Hatchback
Entering the very popular hatchback segment is the C3. This model is not too unfamiliar in South Africa, as the C3 was an available model in SA previously. However, the new model is unrecognisable. It has a bold, energetic and unique look and demands to stand out from the hatchback crowd!
This brave model takes on rivals like the VW Polo, Ford Fiesta and Renault Clio with its competitive features and price.
You have a choice between two trim levels:
- Citroën C3 Feel – R239 900
- Citroën C3 Shine – R289 900
Sounds good? I think it does. Read more about the C3 here.
2. Citroën C3 Aircross – The Compact SUV
The C3’s bigger sibling, the C3 Aircross, enters another booming segment. South Africans love a baby SUV. In this segment, you have the Ford EcoSport, Mazda CX-3 and the new VW T-Cross as contenders. The C3 Aircross follows a similar design style with a contrasting roof and body colours, as well as the red colour accents seen on the side mirror, roof rails and around the fog-lights. The C3 Aircross looks tough and rugged, but also stylish and quirky – a great combination.
Here, you also have a choice between two trim levels:
- Citroën C3 Aircross Feel – R339 900
- Citroën C3 Aircross Shine – R359 900

3. Citroën C5 Aircross – The Flagship SUV
The C5 Aircross enters the C-segment SUV market with rivals like the Kia Sportage, Toyota RAV4 and Suzuki Vitara. This is Citroën’s brand new flagship model and is a little less quirky and a little more ‘serious’ than the C3 models. The C5 Aircross is all about comfort, luxury and safety. It is equipped with Citroën’s Progressive Hydraulic Cushions suspension system, which ensures a smooth ride. As standard, it comes with a 20.3cm touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, rear parking sensors and six airbags to name only a few.
This model also offers the Feel and Shine trim levels:
- Citroën C5 Aircross Feel – R469 900
- Citroën C5 Aircross Shine – R509 000

Welcome back, Citroën! I’m excited to see how these new models do in their very competitive segments!
