You’ve probably been scrolling through your Instagram feed and noticed that photos of the annual MET Gala have been taking over. Literally.

For those of you who are new to the party and wondering what in the world is happening, the Costume Institute Gala is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit.

The theme for this year was Camp: Notes on Fashion.

This is a style that is supposed to disrupt any modern preconception of what style and art are supposed to look like. It’s considered appealing because of its bad taste and ironic value.
