CAKE Off Garden Route is an event taking place every year for the past 6 years in the Garden Route with the top cake artists in the area.
We had such huge success in the past that we have decided to have 3 (three) Cake Off’s in 2020. One in Mossel Bay, one in George and one in Oudtshoorn.
Cake artists put their baking, building and decorating skills to the test in this competition. “Thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic we did things a little different this year.
Every town was allocated one during April for their Cake Off.
The organiser was worried about how the competition would proceed during the lockdown and if it would be a success, but she was delighted with the response, Also, the cakes was a delight to the eye.
The theme set out for 2020 was High Tea During Lockdown. Each contestant had to bake and decorate the following according to the theme – 1 x cake, 12 x creative doughnuts and 12 x meringues (skuimpies).
The contestants had to submit before, during and after photos and a short video the day before their town’s Cake Off to the organiser and judges.
Judging was different too – the focus was on how well the theme is maintained, techniques used and the appearance of the final product.
The judges this year was the well-known South African singer Tobi Jooste, Hilary Otto, Denise Lloyd, Ian Perryman, Ronelle Stopforth and Cecilia van der Heyde.
After the judges and the public voted all bakes from each town was auctioned.
