The rise of the internet has had a massive impact on the entertainment industry and also who we view as celebrities. Back in 2002, a celebrity was someone we either saw in a movie or on MTV in a music video. Fast forward 20 years and the meaning of the term ‘celebrity’ has completely changed.
Now, almost anyone can be one or become one. In fact, sometimes it feels like almost everyone is one. It’s not abnormal for the girl next door to casually have 20K followers or for the guy you know from work to have a video that’s gone viral with 1 million views.
Since the year is almost over, let’s have a look at 2020’s biggest Tiktok celebrities, which basically refers to who has the most followers on the app. The more followers you have, the more likely that people will actually start to think of you as a celebrity. Here are the ranks:
1. Charli D’Amelio
Coming in the first place is world-famous American dancer, Charli D’Amelio (@charlidamelio) with a mind-blowing amount of 98.5 million followers. The young TikTok is merely 16 years of age and is one of the most influential creators on the app. She is definitely seen as a celebrity worldwide; the paparazzi follows this girl everywhere. Charli began attracting attention with her catchy TikTok dance moves. We have to say, the girls got talent.
2. Addison Rae
In second place is Tiktoker, Addison Rae (@addisonrae), with 68.5 million followers on the app. Also viewed as an influential celebrity, Addison’s every move is followed by paparazzi and fans. Addison is also a dancer but doesn’t always stick to dancing in her videos.
3. Zach King
Last, but not least is filmmaker and illusionist, Zach King (@zachking). His videos are known as the “digital sleight of hand” since he’s famous for editing them so that it looks as though he’s performing magic. It’s then no surprise that he has reeled in 52.5 million followers on the app.
