A Special Gift for Mother’s Day from a Three-Year-Old

A Masterpiece in its Own Right

I recently came home after work, to a surprise awaiting in my bedroom. Before you are tempted into envy, this was unfortunately the type of surprise that instantly reminds you that you are a mom. There it was, my three-year-old daughter’s masterpiece crafted in pen and misdirected at my headboard. There she lay on the bed excited to see me with such innocence in her eyes.

The book was too small to draw big faces mommy”, she tried to explain. I guess a rather justifiable reason in the mind of a three-year-old.

Motherhood, a Humbling Experience…

Motherhood is humbling at times but truly all worth it. With Mother’s Day just around the corner, there’s always the excitement of what to do on this special day. A day of celebrating maternal bonds and motherhood. The deliberation of what to gift the mother figures in your life and equally the wonder of surprises that await you too.

Talking to a few moms it was clear that most were simply looking forward to having a day off doing absolutely “nothing”. As a working mom trying to balance the demands of work and family life, I can appreciate a mom’s plea for some rest. We are often praised for our nurturing nature and sacrifices made for the well-being of our kids. Waiting for that one day in a year to take a well-deserved break, seemingly we don’t afford ourselves the same kindness.

True Appreciation is in the Simple Acts of Love to Self

Don’t get me wrong, I am in absolute support of a day dedicated to appreciating mothers, but here’s food for thought. A true appreciation of this precious role starts with our own simple acts of love to self; gifting ourselves with self-love and care. A simple commitment to taking constant pauses and an appreciation of whichever season of motherhood you find yourself in. When we take care of our needs, we, in turn, teach our kids the importance of balancing self-love and love for others.

A Meaningful Celebration

This Mother’s Day I look forward to more than just a day off but a day of meaningful experiences and connections that I will carry through going forward.

Still not sure how to celebrate this Mother’s Day? Here are three picks:

1. Celebrate in Style at The Course Mother’s Day Grand High Tea

2. Never Underestimate the Power of A Healing Touch with A Soothing Massage with the Life Day Spa Kids From-me-to-mom Promo (take your little ones for some connecting time)
3. Enjoy a Picnic With a Twist at the Picnics In the Park Mother’s Day Celebration, featuring a 20-piece Orchestra. Need I say more.

Wishing all the mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, godmothers, aunts, mentors and every single woman who is a mother in her own right, a truly happy Mother’s Day.
